Every month, Dancing Astronaut compiles the top songs from the past 30 days into a single Spotify playlist. Vetted and considered by our cross-continental editorial staff, these are the best singles, remixes, and original tracks to have surfaced in the past month.
While April welcomed a plethora of new music from across the dance spectrum, the month was largely dominated by the return of the world’s favorite animated band, Gorillaz. Having given a taste of their new record Humanz in late April, the group proceeded to unleash a bevy of high-profile remixes from artists like Zhu, Bonobo, Baauer, and Nic Fanciulli before releasing their fifth studio album in all its glory on April 28.
Outside of Gorillaz’s triumphant comeback, April also marked the return of ODESZA, who — outside of various festival dates — have been all-but silent on the release front. The duo unveiled two new tracks, “Line of Sight” and “Late Night,” the latter of which marked an exciting stylistic shift for the pair, blending future bass tendencies with feel-good house.
Other notable releases arrived from tastemakers like Anna Lunoe, behind “Godzilla,” and Boys Noize, who once again teamed up with the inimitable POLIÇA for “Lipstick Stains.” On the underground tip, Tiga and Audion united for another super collaboration, “Stabbed in the Back,” while Jeremy Olander provided progressive house bliss on “Billinghurst.”
