Christian Smith released his third album, Input-Output, last year, once again showing off his aptitude at forging techno and tech house with deep grooves that endure through extended time periods. As a label boss with clout in the industry, Smith easily recruited a good deal of his equally accomplished peers to provide their takes on the album’s singles.
French techno legend Laurent Garnier is among the second batch of those adapting Input-Output to their own artistic vision, selecting the song “Air Castle” as his target. The Legion of Honor awardee takes things into a darker realm with his rendition, maintaining some of the original’s more celestial synth elements, yet muddling them down into a scintillating mixture of muted synthesizers and deep, throbbing kicks that positively hypnotize the listener. Subtle, yet airy accents tie the finished piece together, creating a futuristic feel.
Laurent Garnier is joined by Pig&Dan, SHADED, and Drunken Kong on this remix EP, which releases on April 24. Listen to his version of “Air Castle” below, and head here to pre-order.
