One of the best things about the end of the year (aside from resolutions and putting the last year behind you) are the plethora of year-end mixes from artists and labels. It’s a great way to catch up on any music that you might have missed in the past twelve months, as well as a sure-fire way to enjoy your favorite label’s or artist’s favorite music. This year, for starters, featured mixes from Hardwell, Don Diablo, Diplo, Spinnin, Slips & Slurs (for Monstercat), Sick Individuals, Alok, and the ever popular Vicetone year end mix. There are still a bunch that we didn’t feature, so find some of your own and let us know! Alok is Brasilian, so his summer is our winter. It’s still a year-end mix, we promise! Not technically an “end-of-year” mix, but Dieselboy just dropped a massive mix that deserves to be heard. And last but not least, Diplo. This article was first published on Your EDM. Just a few weeks after Disclosure‘s Facebook account got hacked with posts reporting Miley Cyrus gave a blowjob on stage, The Weeknd has become the latest victim of a Facebook hack. This evening, The Weeknd uploaded three posts that we presume to be implicated in his account hack: the same Miley Cyrus story Disclosure posted, a post detailing “12 signs you’re masturbating too much” and a story of Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend Tyga being “caught in a compromising position.” Interestingly, both Disclosure’s and The Weeknd’s account hacks resulted in links routing back to a website called bbviral.co. Further inspection of the site reveals a very sketchy-looking interface with tabloid headlines. It’s possible the site is targeting established musicians to route fans back to their site to generate ad revenue, or even commit even more nefarious schemes. Whatever the case, it’s apparent both Disclosure and The Weeknd are proof that even the most presumably secure accounts can become victims of hacking. Datsik is all about ninjas. We’d hope he’s all about the Music Ninja’s as well, since we’re all about him and his new EP, Sensei. Datsik has long been a leader in the dubstep community, pushing severely dirty growls onto headbangers worldwide. With his new EP, we get just what we bargain for with the Firepower Records‘ head. Sensei features seven songs, including collaborations with Virtual Riot, Excision, AD, Lox Chatterbox and Zack The Lad. If we could only choose two words to describe this project in full they would be sharp and heavy. Sharp is a katana, and as heavy as a sumo wrestler. Throughout Sensei Datsik kicks forth his signature vibe that pays homage to the more classic, pre-2013 dubstep sound. Despite this, he still manages to keep things fresh and forward thinking, showing yet again why he is one of dubstep’s big hitters. Get your copy of Sensei today!
Get down to this new song just dropped by Felix Cartal, “Falling Down.” We’ve heard some good stuff from Felix before. But when I heard these frequencies hit, I knew this would be one to remember. The stellar sound design starts it out strong, and fifty seconds in things really get going on top of some killer house textures. Trent Reznor has finally released his much-anticipated Nine Inch Nails EP Not The Actual Events, which he made with his newest collaborator and bandmate, Atticus Ross. The five-tracker is “an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record,” according to Reznor, and the first song he’s made available for listening, “Burning Bright (Fields On Fire),” certainly fits this idea. Chaotic as ever, we hear Reznor’s brash vocals accompanying angry, pounding electric guitar chords for an explosion of sound whose darkness is palpable. The EP also showcases Reznor’s unrelenting musical standards; nearly three decades after he founded the band, he remains fully capable of creating timeless, avant-garde sounds that maintain Nine Inch Nails’ reputation as one of the more forward-thinking bands in existence. Not The Actual Events is out today, December 23 — just in time to meet the 2016 deadline announced by Reznor one year ago.Spotify:Apple Music:Read More: Nine Inch Nails’ new EP ‘Not The Actual Events’ is coming this week 2016 will mark the return of Nine Inch Nails Watch This: Trent Reznor shares his love for Moog synthesizers
It’s safe to say that 2016 was nothing short of momentous for Anjunadeep alum Lane 8. Winter 2016 Mixtape takes listeners on a three hour journey where Lane 8 combines his own new music with a series of emotive and deep cuts. Deadmau5’s penchant for hip hop recently resulted in his Shotty Horroh collaboration “Okay,” a slick hip hop track combining vintage string samples with Zimmerman’s classy sound design. Now deadmau5 is continuing down that path, officially unveiling another new collaboration with the Manchester-based rapper. The pair’s new piece is titled “Legendary,” a quick hip hop number with a dark instrumental and heavy grime appeal. The two-minute arrangement is dominated by a growling bassline from Zimmerman and two savvy verses from Shotty Horroh.Deadmau5 has previously expressed his admiration for working with Horroh, writing on Twitter: “I should just produce a whole album for Shotty Horroh… dudes so easy to work with.”What’s more, it appears “Legendary” may be the first of two new tracks from the pair:Being lazy right now, but two new @ShottyHorroh tracks on the way. With his sophomore album, 10 Ways To Steal Home Plate, officially in the bag along with a few other singles and a two-track EP from his new R&B side project Openeyes, veteran DJ and producer Wolfgang Gartner has had a productive year to say the least. Taken as a whole, 2016 has seen Gartner return to his stylistic roots from the late 1990s and early 2000s.Many of the tracks on his new album have a distinctly retro sound, notably the funky disco house collaboration “HURRICANE SLURRICANE” which features Dam Funk and E-40, as well as his recent single “Baby Be Real,” released in November. He continues his journey into the sound of the past with his latest single, “Devotion,” out this week on Spinnin’ Records.“Devotion,” features an R&B vocal topline alongside classic house elements and more modern dance tropes. The main bass recalls the future house trend of the last few years, though the groove, vocals and subtle subsidiary synth-work all speak to Gartner’s decades-long career.Read More:Wolfgang Gartner releases first-ever sample pack on SpliceWolfgang Gartner reveals new R&B project, Openeyes InterviewWolfgang Gartner’s ’10 Ways to Steal Home Plate’ is an exciting double take (Review)

LA’s OWSLA collective is gearing up to drop their annual spring collection, which is slated to land on May 5. This year, the label comes together on HOWSLA, led by brand new Chris Lake material. The new compilation, titled with a clever play on words, features a number of new house-leaning highlights from Skrillex‘s roster of artists. Judging by the lead-off track from Chris Lake, the bar-setting “I Want You,” we can safely expect some dance floor gems on the new compilation. The track is a soon-to-be house setlist staple, aligning perfectly with Chris Lake’s bubbling UK-house catalog and rolling out complete with a harrowing video featuring a morgue-turned lusting dance floor. The release also comes with the launch of a new OWSLA summer residency focused on the accompanying compilation’s house-favoring aesthetic. Stationed at Hollywood’s Le Jardin, the eight-week run will take place on Sundays from May 28 – September 3.OWSLA’s team was not immediately available to comment on the rest of compilation’s track list, though for the last two years, the OWSLA spring compilation has featured at least one original production from Skrillex himself.H/T: BillboardRead More:Chris Lake’s top 5 tips for aspiring producersWatch the OWSLA crew take over Europe
