Electronic visionaries G Jones and EPROM are teaming up again for a fantastic four-track EP titled “Disk Utility.” This exciting project is their first collaborative project since the Acid Disk era. Following their energetic lead single “Slamming Keys,” this new EP is their most polished and club-ready body of work yet. It first appeared during an incredible B2B set at OSLO in London earlier this year. Now, “Disk Utility” is finally polished and ready to share with the world!
A rhythmic rollercoaster of acid-drenched grooves, glitchy overlays, and mind-rattling bass lines that resonate into your soul. G Jones & EPROM are truly a force to be reckoned with when they combine forces. Continuing to push boundaries in electronic music, this futuristic thrill ride will also serve as the centerpiece of their New Year’s Eve show at Mississippi Underground in St. Louis later this year.
Slamming this into gear
Opening with the lead single “Slamming Keys,” this track instantly sets the tone for the EP. With its choppy cuts, jaggedly layered piano parts, and high energy, “Slamming Keys” establishes the mood for the four-track collection. Next is “Noontime Acid,” a space-sounding rocket with futuristic samples and thunderous bass booms that sound as if someone is slamming a gong into the atmosphere. 90 ‘s-style vocal chops splice in between this uniquely filled soundscape, along with video game fireballs hurled toward your head. The final drop on this one is sure to send you to a glitch-ridden stratosphere.
Then comes “ 1000 Cuts,” a big reverberating bass-filled nightmare, with drum and bass tendencies. The bass in this one will toss you across the dancefloor and have you hanging on for dear life. A highlight for me is around the halfway mark when this huge, glitchy bass line comes to a gliding halt, and you feel as if the rocket ship is making an abrupt landing. You are surely going to feel this one in your chest out on the dance floor.
Finally, the EP features “By Your Side,” a gentle, euphoric, and danceable groove that beautifully brings this glitchy spaceship to a cozy landing. Shifting gears, this track is just what the EP needed to wrap things up nicely. It’s a dreamy, groove-filled tune that offers a soft change of pace from the rest of the EP. In my opinion, it’s a lovely way to celebrate the Disk Utility era for G Jones and EPROM.
