A serious incident at the Dreamstate electronic music festival in Sydney resulted in the death of a man and the hospitalisation of multiple attendees late Saturday night, according to police and health authorities.
Around 11:30 p.m. on February 7, emergency services were called to the event at Sydney Olympic Park after several festivalgoers suddenly suffered what police termed “medical episodes.” A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.
In total, six other people were taken to hospital, with officers confirming that one of those remains in critical condition. NSW Police established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
While the exact cause of the medical emergencies has not yet been officially confirmed, investigators are examining the possibility of a suspected drug overdose, and authorities have noted that the man who died may have suffered cardiac arrest linked to suspected illicit drug use.
Officials emphasised that a safety plan and harm-reduction measures were in place at the festival, as required by law. These included medical services, hydration stations, chill-out spaces, health support workers, and misting fans to help prevent heat-related illness.
