Initially debuting during GRYFFIN’s Lollapalooza performance on Perry’s Stage this past summer, fans have been eagerly awaiting the official release of the summer anthem “Deep Clear Water”. With a stadium-esque sound design and emotional backdrop, this epic summer jam bursts into a million pieces as soon as the first drop ensues. Built on GRiZ’s wavy bass design and GRYFFIN’s delicate production skills, Deep Clear Water seemingly carries you off into the abyss.
Like an elegant bow to summer, the emotions of this track evoke the fast-rising emotions of a chilly fall morning. Following his most recent collab with Wooli, this new track is less of a banger and more of a thought-provoking master piece. Driven by GRYFFIN’s emotional overlays and GRiZ’s undeniable groove, seasonal depression isn’t ready for this new monstrous collaboration this Fall.
A Deep Clear Beauty
Slowly fading in are the wavy synths and reverby overlays, emerging like a mirage in the summer sun. The emotional vocals blast through the speakers as the tension starts to build, and the synths shimmer in the background. During the first drop, GRiZ’s soundscape shines through in beautiful clarity, like a setting sun beneath the mountain ranges. Discrete dubstep samples sneak into the sound design, as the powerful vocals command the track with full force.
Grabbing your loved one and holding them tight, the middle portion of the song carries you along as the sun’s rays blind you with their warming allure. A collaboration destined for glory, the softer side of GRiZ shows his diverse range once again. The drums pound through vigorously, signaling the final drop of this end-of-summer encapsulation. The enormous, raspy basslines wiggle and wave the listener during this final portion of the song. Your spirit animal flies free until the final note rings, and one comes back down to earth.
Sure to make an appearance at his upcoming Seven Stars Festival in less than a month, I envision this track as a set ender without a doubt.
