Straight from the City of Angels, LA’s Dubstep Angel Boi Phocust teams up again with the genre-blending DJ and Producer The Living Proof for their exciting new single, “BACK 2 U”. Set to be released as a part of Kannibalen Records’ upcoming “Kannibals at the Beach volume 4,” these two talented LA-based artists have reunited once more. Their previous collaboration, which started just over a year ago with the energetic dubstep track “Solid Ground,” now includes fresh emo-core style vocals along with powerful, bass-heavy drops, creating an engaging and dynamic sound on “BACK 2 U”.
The Living Proof, known for his alternative rock-inspired remixes, brings a new level of grit to Phocust’s aggressive dubstep sound design. This powerful collaboration has played a major role in Phocust’s live performances, including last year’s Apocalypse: Zombieland Festival, the rapidly approaching Lost Lands, and various other shows. Making a notable impact in the bass scene, Phocust has been featured on Ravenscoons’ “In the Nest”, Diplo’s Revolution (Circus Records takeover), among other platforms.
Let the chaos begin!
Opening with a grungy guitar riff and emotionally charged, reverb-heavy vocals reminiscent of early Pierce the Veil, the track gradually builds. The vocals punch through around the 30-second mark, as the drums start to set the tone for the chaos to come. Through black nails and razor blades, the lyrics pierce the air: ” I’m coming back to you.” The notes echo out, the animatronic noises ignite, and then the first drop takes you by storm.
Phocust’s signature dubstep soundscape shimmers through and has you gripping the rails until your knuckles turn white. Bass collides from all directions as textured lyrics flicker in and out of the background, commanding the track with full force. The middle section of the song is intense, jarring, and downright nasty. This track was destined for the Lost Lands stage! After a brief moment to catch your breath, the gritty guitar riffs return, and the emo vocals lead this interlude as the track builds up to its final drop.
Yeaaah!!! Im coming back to you!
Suddenly, this thumping backbeat surfaces, stirring the crowd into an instant clapping chant, like something out of a Comeback Kid show. The second drop is a bit different from the first, with a more melodic, ethereal vibe—it’s a real side-winder. It still has a punchy beat in the background, but it’s more groove-driven for sure. Warping this way and that, this melodic wonderland glides to an immaculate halt just under the four-minute mark, leaving you in a sweat-soaked stupor.
