When Flume and Tove Lo first put a call for demos out to the internet, dance-pop singer/songwriter googly eyes was among the first to respond. Affectionately referring to googly eyes as a creator of “emotional weirdo bangers,” Tove Lo makes it clear why she signed the rising artist to her record label. Googly eyes’ past discography is reminiscent of other experimental artists who push the pop envelope, such as SOPHIE, Charli XCX, and even Flume and Tove Lo themselves.

Now the powerhouse duo behind the future bass golden era anthem “Say It” is back with an upcoming joint EP – this time, with googly eyes joining them. The three of them have been in the studio for the past year working on this full collaboration. Its atmospheric first track, “I DON’T GO OUT”, dropped Friday.

Sonically, the song is rich and layered, clear evidence of Flume’s distinct and skilled production hand. Die-hard Skin fans will love the more melodic and lyrical aspect of the track, while Palaces fans will find comfort in the familiar Flume synths and his unsyncopated sound design. Googly eyes’ vocals are glittery and ethereal (think Caroline Polachek on “So Hot”) as she revels the simple joys of just staying in with someone you love. “I don’t go out anymore, cause wherever you are, that’s where I wanna be,” she sings happily on the bridge.

The track has already received its flowers from other dance pop icons like Kylie Minogue and Marina Diamandis, who showed their love in Tove Lo’s Instagram comments. The release was also accompanied with a glitchy and dreamily faded music video, starring googly eyes dancing in a field with a faceless partner. Considering Flume’s own history with stunning visualizers (such as the one for his Hi, This is Flume mixtape), here’s hoping this is a sign of future visual work for the EP!
