Bass Temple and 18 Hands join forces for the mind-bending Evolutions EP, now available through Odyzey Records. This four-track journey takes listeners through primordial sounds, pushing listeners into new territories of elemental bass. Originating from a single idea, this EP feels fated by the universe. It features mystical undertones, lush melodies, and otherworldly percussion that resonate from within Mother Gaia herself.

Denver-based producer Bass Temple transports listeners to another realm with her mystical journeys and cosmic layering. Deeply rooted in elemental bass, her worldly frequencies draw from elements of wave, bass, mid-tempo, and organic sounds that are sprouted straight from Mother Earth. With a rich history of the art of Kung Fu, 18 Hands uses his dedicated teachings to evoke the listeners’ warrior spirit and spiritual connection to the earth. His cinematic soundscape and earthy textures are reminiscent of the climax scene of a movie.

EVOLUTION EP

Let the journey begin…

Opening with its titular track “Evolutions,” earthy textures and piercing flutes introduce the piece, signaling the start of this mystical journey. Delicately rising like morning fog, hypnotic vocals begin swirling around your head from all directions as Bass Temples’ deep, billowing bass lines engulf you completely. Warped textures spiral through the chaos as reverberant vocals fade in and out. Harps signal a brief interlude as these enigmatic side-winding textures wriggle through the final portions of the opening track.

Ominous harps pluck intensely, instilling fear in the hearts of one’s mortal enemies. The tension rises as “Horus” transforms into a fluid, melting wonderland. Gurgling textures flow over the ER drums, while 18 Hands warrior-like sounds intersect and build in the background. Eerie vocals echo, as strange low-end warps drift through the air like water floating in space. Weightless and free, Horus moves through the speakers like the whims of the universe.

Hold on tight!

With reverberant vocals that fade into the mist, “I Won’t Wait” features Bass Temples’ signature lush textures and resonant bass lines. The 18 Hands warrior spirit subtly appears in the background before emerging more prominently around the first minute. This track feels somewhat more modern compared to the others on the EP. Around the middle, it incorporates a mid-tempo drum and bass-inspired backbeat, making the latter half even more engaging. The song’s bass lines vibrate and jiggle like machine gun fire until the final note fades.

Rising from the ashes, the universe’s metaphysical cry echoes in “In The Embers.” A mix of earthy textures and cosmic layers makes it hard to tell whether we are launching into a new galaxy or plunging into the Earth’s core. Eerie vocals subtly creep in the background as cosmic chaos unfolds. Gritty low-end textures vibrate through big, raspy bass lines, while the delicate vocals coon within the background. A pure journey from start to finish, “ In The Embers” eloquently closes out this cosmic shift known as the Evolutions EP.
