After an incredible year filled with sold-out shows, major festival appearances, and the conclusion of his Moonglade Tour, Of The Trees turns his attention to his most creative project yet. Located in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in Telluride, CO, Camp Alderwild is a deeply personal event curated by Of The Trees himself. Taking place on August 22-23, this two-day event invites fans to connect more deeply with nature, music, and one another.

Following the ethos of Planet Bluegrass Colorado’s eco-conscious festival producers, Camp Alderwild is both a communal gathering and an artistic statement. Designed with sustainability at its core, the festival will be offering composting, recycling, and low-waste vendor ecosystems. Brought to you by AEG Presents, Planet Bluegrass, and Memory Palace, this trifecta of collective minds promises the most eco-forward event deep in Colorado’s illustrious San Juan Mountains.

The Commute

The most accessible airport for out-of-state travelers is Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), located approximately 90 minutes from Telluride. Direct flights are available from Denver and other major hubs, and shuttle services between Montrose and Telluride make it a convenient option for festival goers.

For those traveling from the Front Range, a roundtrip shuttle from downtown Denver to Telluride is available for $150 + fees. This shuttle includes drop-off and pickup at both Camp Alderwild campground locations.

  • Departure: Friday, August 22 at 8:00 AM
  • Return: Sunday, August 24 at 10:00 AM

Shuttle tickets can be purchased alongside festival passes at www.campalderwild.com.

Driving from Denver takes approximately 5–6 hours, offering a scenic route through the Rocky Mountains. While having a vehicle may be useful for regional exploration, Telluride itself is fully walkable, and its free gondola system between downtown and Mountain Village provides easy transportation throughout the area without the need for a car.

Telluride Travel Tips

Telluride is located at 8,750 feet above sea level, which might be a new experience for some travelers. It’s a great idea to arrive early, drink plenty of water, and steer clear of heavy exercise or too much alcohol for the first day. Staying hydrated, replenishing electrolytes, and taking it easy with light activity can really help keep altitude sickness at bay.

Mountain weather can surprise you! During the day, you’ll likely enjoy warm and sunny skies, but as evening falls, temperatures might dip into the low 40s. It’s a good idea to pack a little bit of everything—light clothes for the daytime, cozy layers for the evening, and sturdy shoes to handle uneven paths. Preparing like this will help everyone stay comfortable and enjoy their time in the mountains to the fullest!

Travelers are encouraged to bring along reusable water bottles and bags, as Telluride kindly bans single-use plastics to protect its beautiful environment. It’s also wonderful to show respect to the friendly local workers and residents—remember, Telluride is a charming small mountain town with a tight-knit community and limited infrastructure, so a kind attitude goes a long way!
