Small reef fish play a crucial role in maintaining the health of coral ecosystems by controlling algae growth, which can otherwise smother corals. Their feeding habits promote coral regeneration and biodiversity, ensuring the resilience of these delicate marine habitats.
These little fish also serve as a vital food source for larger predators, supporting the broader oceanic food web. You can help protect these ecosystems by being a citizen scientist; track fish and reef health when you volunteer your time to reefcheck.org.
