We caught up with Italian hot shot Bashment YC to delve a bit deeper into his world and mind as a DJ and producer.

Hello Bashment YC!, thanks for taking time out to have a chat with us.

Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi ! I’m a 25 years old who loves food, lives in Republic Of Korea and have been working as a music producer making EDM, Pop, Hip-Hop, etc. I also have a team called “Pilament” with a Korean DJ/ Producer Prion Heart (Seung Hoon Kim).

What have you been up to in the past year?
In 2016, I seem to have just spent time working on songs without going outside. Starting with EDM, I made songs as small as pop songs, arrangements, and so on. Also I seem to have spent a lot of time and effort to find my musical identity. To summarize, it seems that year 2016 was a year of visiting my own musical colors.

What made you take a decision to get into the Dance music scene?
When I was 19 years old, I came across the sound of Korean famous idol singer G-dragon, T.O.P and started to get interested in bass music when I realized that the producer who made the music was DJ Diplo. I started to learn doing in earnest at the age of 20 when I was liberated from a minor, and since I was a kid, I had a desire to be a music producer, so I began to compose music and became accustomed to it.

Who were your influences which have inspired you to go down a certain genre route?
As I said before, it is Diplo. He is my idol and a person who should not be missing in my musical world. He made me fall into EDM. Of course I respect his groups Major Lazer and Jack U.

How would you describe your sound?
I have been working very hard to love and study the unique vibes and edgy synth feelings of the EDM labels “Dimmak, Mad Decent and OWSLA.” My music keeps a “Bashment identity” and I want to make it easy to reach the public who do not know about EDM.

What was it like releasing your debut EP “Hey I’m YC!”?
Because it was my debut EP album which I made while preparing for a long time, it was precious for me. Thankfully, “Gayaguem” in the EP album also received a lot of attention from EDM.com and Doing “Ilbo”, a famous newspaper in Korea. It served as a driving force for me to be able to absorb more musically and grow even more.

Can you tell us a bit about your new single “Still In It”?
Still in it’s sound source is simple, but it is a sound source made to make the musical perfection and the trap specific vibe, feeling of weight. Also it is a sound source that adds a unique vibe of bass music and my own color sense together with the “Trap City” which was recently released from the Belgian label Kinetik Records.

What has been your top career highlight so far?
In fact, I do not think that my best career highlights have yet come. If I come to a time when I can live a very busy musical life while touring around the world with my team “Pilament”, my music and working with great artists, I think that is the highlight of my top career. I believe that it will come sooner or later, and I live hard every day.

What’s next for you this second half of the year?
In the second half of the year, I’m focusing on making tracks with more vocals. Featuring tracks are already in progress for 5 – 6 songs, and are making efforts to make EDM, Pop, etc that all the public can enjoy easily. I also appreciate your expectation of “Bashment” tracks which will be released soon as the contract is currently underway with two overseas labels.

Are there any up and coming artists that have caught your eye and that you would recommend giving a listen to?
Well, I recommend Prion Heart (Seung Hoon Kim), a producer and DJ from my team “Pilament”. I want to inform the public about the music of team “Pilament” to which I belong.

Finally, any shout outs or anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for listening to Bashment YC’s interview so far. I will continue to strive to bring great music and fun music to the public!
