5 Under 5k is a feature on Dancing Astronaut dedicated to spotlighting talented upcoming and undiscovered artists who we believe deserve more exposure. Each edition of 5 Under 5k will highlight five artists from a wide variety of genres with under 5,000 followers on SoundCloud (at the time of writing).
A SoundCloud playlist of the tracks featured can be found at the end of the article.
Pogo x Pogo (1,842) start off Volume 20 of 5 Under 5k with a funky and melodic house remix of “Dance On It,” a track that makes the listener want to do just that. With all of the characteristics of the best disco and funky house, both the remix and the original by BORDO (3,693) are certain party-starters.
Relax and take a breather with the track “rooftops” by Apostrophe (1,759), which is one of six tracks that make up the EP love ultimate. Although the other tracks on the EP have a similarly mellow-yet-emotionally-powerful sound, “rooftops” takes it a step further with a vintage-style beat and a prominent bass line that supports the well-refined chords and melodies on top.
Jumping right back into four-on-the-floor territory, Made in Paris (3,085) shows off her dark, minimal sound in her latest two-track EP, Sonorous. If the young Australian continues releasing quality tunes like these, it will not be long before she finds herself at the top of the techno scene, down under and across the globe.
Jackson Snapp (432) recently released his first EP, Embark, a journey into the depths of his progressive style. Surprisingly, the second track on the aptly-titled EP, “Resolve,” is the only full progressive house piece of the lot. Up until Embark, Snapp released almost exclusively progressive house, and although the EP does have obvious progressive influences, he journeys past the bounds of progressive house into melodic breakbeat and beyond.
It would be rather difficult to nail down the exact genre produced by Shivan (2,924), and would likely be a pointless endeavor. Just in the last month, Shivan has released tracks ranging from dubstep to electro-metal to ambient to bass house, the latter of which is featured below. Something of a mad scientist like Alon Mor, there’s no telling what Shivan will produce next, but there’s no doubt that it will be one hell of a ride.
