Trance lovers eagerly await A State of Trace every week, a radio show hosted Thursday nights by distinguished music producer and DJ Armin van Buuren. The collection of songs recounts the week in preeminent trance music from all over the world.

First aired in March 2001, the show is structured as a two-hour mix in which Armin plays new trance music released from both well known artists, as well as underground acts. From the more up-and-coming artists, selected tracks are broadcasted during the show to help generate more popularity for their releases. The show’s air time as well as website structure has long been an international hit, as fans can listen to the radio while conversing in online chat-rooms during the session.

Every year, Armin dedicates a playlist that showcases the best trance music of the year. In his 2017 playlist, van Buuren has included the likes of Allen Watts, Andrew RayelGareth Emery, and Fatum among many others. The four and a half hour playlist is a testament to a year full of new styles — artists making leaps and bounds in production experimentation which is quite riveting to experience.
