Renato Ratier – Minemalistic EP Review

Renato Ratier is wrapping up his year with a stripped down, enticing release on his home base of D-EDGE titled Minemalistic. The opener, Ratier’s original mix, presents a thumping clip with light keyboard notation and muted synths that allow for a smooth listening experience geared toward a dark, simple indoor setting.Meanwhile, Acid Mondays expand upon these ideals while adding a touch of energy to “Minemalistic,” increasing the tempo while adding further emphasis on percussion. An enhanced, groovier bassline pairs well with the subtle, eerie accents of the original, setting up their interpretation of the clip to cause even further impact on the dancefloor. Both the original “Minemalistic” and its Acid Mondays re-work arrived on digital album shelves on December 16.Prior to this release, Ratier released his second studio album, Youniverse which stiched together an immersive story across 10 tracks. D-EDGE also celebrated a momentous year as a club as well, hosting over 300 cutting-edge artists across 150 club nights.

Gramatik releases ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ remix EP

Gramatik and his label Lowtemp tap the talent of Beat Fatigue, Psymbionic, and Cobrayama for remixes of Gramatik’s collaborative hip-hop track, “Satoshi Nakamoto,” adding another group to the ever-growing pool of momentous Epigram remixes. The original, which is named after the mysterious person or group that invented the revolutionary BitCoin technology, is a return to Gramatik’s hip hop roots, and as such, was perfectly suited for rappers Probcause and Adrian Lau to lay down some thick verses upon. The EP features three new versions of “Satoshi Nakamoto,” which has already reached legendary status after its original release in early 2016 as part of Gramatik’s latest LP, Epigram. The first of the re-inventors to throw his hats into Gramatik’s cryptocurrency ring is the Amsterdam-based Beat Fatigue, who adds additional live instrumentation and a very healthy dose of funk.Hot on the heels of Beat Fatigue is Gravitas Records label manager and multi-tempo bass music producer Psymbionic, who creatively slices the original up and gives it his signature synthesized sonic treatment. Finally, ex-Exmag member Mike Lannato, now known as Cobrayama, finishes off the EP with a more laid-back, retro re-imagination that utilizes the nostalgic themes of the original as the main focal point.Read More:Gramatik – Native Son (ft. British DJ Dax J Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail for Dropping Muslim Prayer Remix

Techno DJ Dax J has been sentenced to a year in jail for playing a dance remix of the Muslim call to prayer at a Tunisian festival. Chances are he won’t be serving out his sentence, as he already fled the country. However, he did issue an apologetic statement to the Muslims he offended: “Sincere apologies to anyone who may have been offended by music that I played at Orbit Festival in Tunisia on Friday. It was never my intention to upset or cause offence to anybody.” When footage of Dax J’s Muslim prayer remix surfaced on social media, the governor of Nabeul, Mnaouar Ouertani, shut the club down. Before the incident, Dax J had played many clubs and festivals across the world, including UK’s Glastonbury. He’s probably not going to be asked back to Tunisia anytime soon, but the club has accepted his apology. Rough translation of the post below states: “Dax J did not intend to provoke your anger or offend you. It is clear, after his apologies, that Dax J is sincere and has no reason to hurt our dear festival-goers.” “We do not want to interfere in religious debates. Away from us the idea of tarnishing the image of Islam, which remains a religion of peace and forgiveness. So my friends, forgive, and don’t forget that the music is the answer.”
