After honing his sound behind the scenes, DJ and producer James Kennedy returns on January 16 with “Try Again”, a gritty, club-drive tech-house update of Aaliyah’siconic hit of the same name. The track marks a major moment for Kennedy, arriving via Hexagon Records – Don Diablo’s internationally celebrated imprint known for breaking boundary-pushing talent and shaping the future of electronic music. Landing on Hexagon places Kennedy among one of dance music’s most forward-thinking rosters, underscoring the momentum behind his long-awaited release.

“Try Again” brings a contemporary spin to a beloved classic, driven by a sped-up BPM, a grittier sonic edge, and a modern tech-house production style. Designed for peak hours on the dancefloor, the track reflects the more refined direction Kennedy has been developing during his time in the studio.
Kennedy says of the single, ““I’m super excited to share the music I’ve been working on and couldn’t have asked for a better label to kick things off with than Hexagon. I’ve been a huge fan of Don’s for many years now and can’t wait for everyone to hear this one!”
In recent years, Kennedy’s profile has continued to grow. From his breakout success on Vanderpump Rules to performances at Coachella’s Neon Carnival, Stagecoach (Diplo’s HonkyTonk), EDC, North Coast Music Festival, and Chasing Summer, he has steadily built a reputation for engaging, high-energy sets. He has also appeared at top venues including Exchange LA, Rebel Toronto, and Echostage DC, and currently holds residencies at LIV at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Big Night Entertainment Group in New England, and Borgata in Atlantic City.
Alongside his music career, Kennedy has spent the past year supporting causes important to him, including fundraising efforts for Los Angeles’ Midnight Missionand championing dog adoption through Pups Without Borders, where he recently performed at their annual Christmas Gala.
With “Try Again”, Kennedy steps into a renewed phase of his artistic journey – marking the first look at more original music in the near future.
