After an eight-year hiatus, international DJ and producer Chicco Secci makes his long-awaited return with “Running In The Air,” dropping Friday, October 24th via Sirup Music’s sub-label Club Control. With over four decades of impact across Italy, Ibiza, and Miami, Chicco stands among the true legends of the electronic world, an artist whose residencies at the most iconic venues helped define modern house and club culture.
Marking his first official release since “African Vanilla” in 2017, “Running In The Air” channels a deeply Afro-inspired energy while honoring the timeless sound that has defined Chicco’s career. Built on hypnotic percussion, haunting vocal textures, and elegant rhythmic movement, the track bridges global influences with a distinctly soulful atmosphere. Proudly presented by Sirup Music, the track arrives as part of the label’s 25th anniversary celebrations, continuing its tradition of showcasing artists who have shaped the evolution of electronic music.
A pioneer of the international club scene, Chicco has long been revered for his ability to fuse emotion and rhythm into seamless sonic journeys. From his early rise in Italy’s underground scene to his legendary residency at Ibiza’s KU (now UNVRS), his sets became synonymous with passion, precision, and musical storytelling. “Running In The Air” builds on that legacy — an Afro-tinged anthem that unites classic house spirit with contemporary depth, designed for the dancefloor yet steeped in soul.
QUOTE FROM CHICCO SECCI:
“‘Running In The Air’ is born from a fusion of dark Afro rhythms and soaring vocals, a sound that channels both tension and release. Drawing on my years in Miami’s underground scene and the memories of electric nights in Ibiza, I wanted to evoke that timeless energy on the dancefloor. This track is my way of honoring the journey I have travelled, past, present, and future. I hope listeners feel transported, as if running in the air.”
Chicco’s career spans decades of innovation and influence. A native of Italy, he began as a DJ and radio engineer for Radio Deejay, where his “Megamix” sessions revolutionized the country’s club culture and introduced advanced mixing techniques to a new generation of artists. His journey led him to Ibiza in the mid-1980s, where he became a resident at KU (now UNVRS) and one of the island’s defining DJs during the birth of the Balearic era. Playing to crowds that included global icons such as Freddie Mercury and Harrison Ford, Chicco helped lay the groundwork for Ibiza’s rise as the epicenter of dance music.
In 1993, Chicco relocated to Miami, where he played a pivotal role in the development of the city’s house music movement. His residencies at Bar One, BASH, The Living Room, Amnesia, Opium Garden, Mission, Wall, and Mynt introduced house music to Miami’s mainstream and set the stage for the city’s global reputation. He has since shared stages with Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, Above & Beyond, Afrojack, and countless others, cementing his legacy as one of the true architects of the scene.
As a producer, Chicco’s discography spans both underground classics and crossover hits. His early piano anthem “Whip of the Rhythm” remains a beloved favorite among DJs like Sasha, while his single “Tarantella” earned Pete Tong’s BBC Radio “Tune of the Week” four consecutive times. Recent collaborations with close friend Benny Benassi and Gianluca Vacchi further demonstrate his enduring versatility, with over 100 productions released in the past three years alone.
With “Running In The Air,” Chicco reaffirms his status as a living legend; an artist who continues to bridge generations, continents, and sounds. With the song being released on Sirup Music, This milestone moment celebrates not only Chicco’s return but also the shared legacy of two enduring forces in electronic music history.
