Transmitting yet another colossal collaboration during his return, GRiZ partners with UK Grime icon Flowdan for his most energetic single so far. “Coast to Coast” offers a futuristic groove, propelled by the industry’s most recognizable lyricist. Coming right after his recent release “Chaos Theory” featuring Wooli, this new single shifts gears, crosses time zones, and delivers that signature GRiZ dubstep soundscape we know and love.

Just three months before his curated Seven Stars Festival, GRiZ lifts us out of our summertime sadness with this certified feel-good banger. The original, unreleased ID for the track surfaced during GRiZ’s hiatus, leaking to fellow producers within his circle. Originally, Flowdan had sampled vocals from Sammy Virji’s “Shellaverse,” and the song quickly blew up to become a crowd favorite. Inspired by the positive response, Flowdan jumped into the studio to record an entirely new topline for the official release, creating a never-before-heard version.

A million Volts

Beginning with a wavy synth part reminiscent of 1991’s The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, available on the Super Nintendo, GRiZ continues his nostalgic feel with the opening of his latest track. Similar to his SideQuest Mixtape, this introduction is mystifying in its build until Flowdan’s commanding voice takes a presiding lead. Blasting in with his first verse, “A million volts” seems to electrify the eardrums as GRiZ’s undeniable sound fusion builds in the background. Exploding into the first drop, sounds screech and scream with every turn, as the track bounces along.

A signature GRiZ bass track has an undeniable groove that you just can’t resist; it’ll make you uncontrollably bob your head and bounce to the beat no matter how much you lack rhythm. The music notes take over your body, giving it some magical power, allowing you to find rhythm for those mystical two minutes and fifty-five seconds. After he “cuts the mid-range and drops the bass,” things get gritty, and the glitch-hop shines through with extreme precision. Vibrating through the rest of the chorus, Flowdans’ second verse begins to unfold.

Set to a backdrop similar to the introduction, the Zelda-esque music creeps into the background once more. Flowdan drives the track home with his grime-filled vocals and UK swagger. As the lyrics ring out and reverberate off into the distance, the final drop blasts through the speakers, wreaking havoc on anyone who is listening. Big raspy baselines ride out, filling the ending with gritty textures and futuristic sounds that will melt your brain upon first contact. Leaning less on the funk side and more on his Dubstep / Bass design, the ever-versatile GRiZ wows us yet again with his latest release “Coast to Coast” featuring Flowdan.
