Davi Hemann is set to have an incredible year ahead. Producing quality music at a rapid pace, all at the age of only 17, he is looking to progress further and begin to show the world just what he is capable of. After taking an interest in music at 8 years old, and with great help from his father, Davi has won awards within his local music scene in Sao Paulo and is used to playing live shows there too. We caught up with him to get to know a bit more about him!
Davi, first things first, how are you?
You must be busy at the moment! I’m great, thanks! I’m currently working on a lot of projects and I’m on my school vacations so I’m not that busy at the moment, but when I return to school, things are going to get hard haha.
Where are you currently based?
I live in São José dos Campos, a city of the state of São Paulo, Brasil. I never moved to another city, so I’ve lived here all my life pretty much.
For those who don’t know, you’re making all this great music and you’re only 17. Do you think your young age helps give you a unique style and viewpoint when producing tunes?
I think age doesn’t matter regardless of what you’re doing, you just have to give your best and keep the quality high. The advantage of being young on this scene it’s just that I have a lot of time to study and develop my own sound.
Tell us about your history in music, where did it all begin and why?
My history in music began when my sister had guitar classes, and I was spying to see what was going on. That caught my attention and I was listening to a lot of music and trying to guess the chords on her guitar. Later on, I started having guitar classes at the age of 8 and then, practicing every day, I started my own band with some friends. We played in cool venues and there I learned how to approach the crowd, select the right songs and how to perform. About four or five years ago, I downloaded my first DAW just to record some guitar riffs that I made and then in 2016, watching random YouTube videos, I discovered that people were actually making electronic music on the same software. That blew my mind and I couldn’t stop thinking about it so decided to give it a try, and then I fell in love!
Who are you most influenced by?
I don’t have a major influence but I started after watching a video of Martin Garrix showing how he made his track ‘Animals’. I also have a lot of influence from Disco as well, such as Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jackson 5, CHIC, The Trammps and the list goes on. However, when it comes to actual producers, Avicii, Mesto, Tiësto, Jay Hardway and Swedish House Mafia influence me most.
Do you think those influences can be heard in your music, and how would you yourself describe your sound?
Definitely! You can hear a strong presence of the Martin Garrix and Avicii style, but I always try to bring something new to it. For example, my track “Spaces” has a very psychedelic break melody, which is what I really look for when producing. I don’t stick to one unique sound. I love playing with synths and trying to discover new things and new sounds! My main goal is to never be the same but never disappoint!
Give us a few of your favourite moments from your career so far!
I really love when I am with friends and suddenly someone puts my track on and tells other people that I actually made that and people go crazy! They think that I’m a liar and they don’t believe that I did the track. However, there is no better feeling than playing your track in the club and watching everybody going crazy.
What’s your ultimate aim in music?
Short term and long term, my only goal in music is to touch someone’s heart or maybe make this person happy and forget about their problems. I really hope that people can feel better when listening to my music. I’m really looking forward to playing in some nice venues and being signed with a good label.
Give us some info on your upcoming projects and what we can look forward to this year!
I have a cool radio track coming up with a very good singer and some collaborations with other people that we are still working on!
After a successful 2017, do you have any new years resolutions?
Keep studying and developing my own sound! Hopefully, getting signed with a big label.
Finally, tell us something that people may not know about Davi Hemann?
When I was 12 I didn’t like electronic music at all!
Any shout outs?
Shout out to my family and friends for supporting me since day one and fans for encouraging me to continue producing!
