The Norwegian king of tropical and hip-hop fusion has returned.

To honor Biggie‘s birthday on May 21, Matoma teamed up with the late rapper’s wife Faith Evans and Snoop Dogg for a new track. The final product was dubbed “Party on the West Coast” and lays a foundation of Matoma’s tropical beats for verses from The Notorious B.I.G.’s and Snoop with Evans handling vocals on the chorus.

One of Matoma’s most well-known tracks is his remix of Biggie’s “Old Thing Back,” and he speaks highly of the late rapper and his influence. Matoma expressed his respect for the rapper in the track description for “Party on the West Coast.”

“It’s funny how big a difference one person can have on your life. I’ll never forget the first time I heard Biggie, my big brother Dan played me Ready To Die and I never heard anything like it. I couldn’t understand the words or the stories but I could feel them, his flow, the vibe, it changed me.”

Matoma got some big news a few days ago when he found out his rework of “Old Thing Back” achieved gold sales in America, saying, “The impact that this great man has had on me not only with the music that fueled me as a teenager but to this insane achievement in the beginning of my career, words can’t describe.”
