Jeroen Verheij, better known under his performance name Secret Cinema, has been a subtle, yet driving force in the European underground scene for the better part of three decades. Breaking into the scene first as an entirely live act – something near unheard of in electronica at the time – he began embracing the full potential of his career in the early 2000’s when he began DJing and nurturing other artists such as Enrico Sangiuliano under his label Gem Records.
After celebrating twenty-five years in the industry in 2016, Secret Cinema decided to re-master one of his most fabled, career-defining tracks to fans as a special edition. “Timeless Altitude” was first written in 1994, going on to become a huge favorite among the elite crowd at the time, which included Sven Väth and Carl Cox, among others. It’s easy to see why the single was such a hit; deep bass-lines and hearty kicks line an immensely groovy hook which entrances the listener until the last minute. Verheij demonstrated that less is more here, creating a relatively simple, yet hypnotic track that is universally appealing and still widely impactful.
“Timeless Altitude” now sounds crisper than ever thanks to its new sonic treatment, and its revival now comes with a brand new remix by his German peer and fellow techno expert, Heiko Laux. Laux adds a contemporary appeal to the finished product with even more robust percussion and soaring, yet subtle synth layers added for more body.
Both singles will be hitting digital shelves come April 21, which you can pre-order here. However, for vinyl lovers, Secret Cinema has sweetened the deal. He’ll be giving away one of only 500 SILVER Box editions of the vinyl press to a lucky fan, which comes with both the re-mastered original and the Heiko Laux remix, in addition to a CD with four of his most favored live sets over the years, a USB of all his productions, a new documentary about his life, and exclusive samples on a floppy disc from the program he used to make the original “Timeless Altitude.”
