In their latest ploy to maintain relevance, Tidal has announced they will now offer “master-quality audio recordings” to their list of services. The addition will only be available to subscribers of Tidal HiFi, the platform’s top-tier subscription, and only via desktop. This puts Tidal in an industry-leading position as the first mover of truly high-resolution streaming, though several other platforms have announced plans to follow suit. In contrast to Tidal HiFi’s resolution of 44.1 kHz/16 bit, which is equivalent to Spotify’s 320 kbps, Tidal Masters are streamed at 96 kHz/24 bit.
