Though k?d launched his career just a short time ago, the elusive young producer is already poised to have one of 2017’s most meteoric ascensions. Following a stellar, seemingly unending string of releases in 2016, k?d landed a spot on our “25 Artists to Watch in 2017” list, and for good reason. While future bass producers are a dime a dozen in the current dance music climate, k?d is one of the rare artists injecting scintillating innovation into the genre.

The rising star has wasted no time in continuing his prolific streak in 2017. Yesterday, January 3, k?d released his first original of the year. Aptly titled “Genesis,” the artist’s newest track recalls essences of Imperium-era Madeon, while toying with unique structural progressions that are seemingly endemic to k?d himself. Given that an unfortunately large percentage of future bass producers seem to be stuck in the past, attempting to recreate sounds which Flume and Cashmere Cat have since evolved from, it’s refreshing to see an artist who suitably embodies the genre’s spirit, and is actually looking into the future.
